Blue Cafe - Santa Fe, NM
Blue Cafe is an image taken late in the afternoon in Santa Fe, NM in February, 2000. My intention that afternoon was to capture images that represented the essence of Santa Fe. It was the song of a bird that first drew me into the courtyard. I was then struck by the colors of the front of the cafe. There was this Santa Fe blue everywhere with a touch of pink. Then I noticed that the chairs in front had colors that matched the front of the cafe. As I set up, the bird brought my eye back to the Wisteria trunk, ancient with gnarled history. I reset my 4x5 camera to bring the trunk and cafe together in a long time exposure. The saturated southwestern monotone colors, the peeling paint, the dust everywhere, the bare Wisteria all combine to reveal the essence of Santa Fe in winter.
